The Coconut (Il Cocco)

A military outpost from the 1400s

The farm Il Cocco, owes its name to the commander "Ser Cocco Salimbeni" who lived in the Rocca of Castiglione d'Orcia in 1400. He and his militias controlled the Via Francigena of which the Podere Il Cocco was the military outpost on the southern slope of the Orcia Valley.

Podere "Il Cocco" rose to prominence due to its strategic location: being visible from the Rocca di Castiglione and at the same time having a view of the Mediterranean Sea.
